What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. This specialty focuses on how teeth fit together and the treatment of improper bites. Orthodontics is also concerned with neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities associated with the tissue surrounding the mouth and jaw.
Many people associate orthodontics with braces and the cosmetic benefits this specialty provides. Yet, there is more to orthodontics than braces and an attractive smile. Orthodontic treatment is very critical to overall oral health. Straight teeth that fit together correctly are much easier to keep clean, less likely to wear down prematurely and have a smaller risk of tooth decay, periodontal disease (like gingivitis) and other dental diseases or conditions.
Conditions treated with Orthodontics:
- Spacing or Gaps Between Teeth
- Crooked Teeth
The LLU School of Dentistry Graduate Orthodontic Clinic takes all orhtodontic patients. Our referrals come from outside dentists, other LLU dental clinics and self-referrals (individuals requesting appointments for themselves).
