Reasons for Periodontal Treatment

Our board certified faculty periodontists are trained in specialized dental procedures to help you maintain the health of your teeth, gums and jawbone. Related conditions and procedures include:

  • Moderate/advanced gum disease
  • Gum recession
  • Crown lengthening
  • Ridge augmentation

For mild to moderate periodontal problems, our faculty periodontists will address the underlying bacterial infection and then provide advice on the most appropriate home hygiene practices.

Sometimes a deep scaling is needed to remove bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar) from the teeth and tissues. More intensive cleaning may be required in cases of advanced periodontal disease in which the jawbone has regressed significantly. Loose teeth that cannot be saved may also be removed.

Our faculty periodontists are specially trained in all aspects of dental implant procedures that restore functionality to the mouth when teeth have been affected by periodontitis.

Because periodontal disease is progressive, it is essential to remove the bacteria and calculus buildup to halt the spread of infection. Our periodontists will be happy to advise you on effective cleaning methods and treatment options.
